Make sure your cat gets the cream during breaks A pair of cat lovers has set up a business to ensure felines left behind by owners on holiday can be pampered, cosseted and cared for in the comfort of their own homes. Jo Dalton and Jen Wilkinson, of Kingston Gardens, Beddington, felt their cat Logan did not get the five-star treatment he deserved when staying at a cattery in January. Convinced other cat owners would feel the same about their pets, they have set up Catmate to offer moggies a more kind and sensitive babysitting service. Miss Dalton said: "We were unhappy with the service we received in the cattery we put our cat in January. We just felt he was not the same when he came back." "With Catmate, we offer more than the cattery service. We give a bit more TLC we play with them and cuddle them. "We also meet up with the clients beforehand and get to know the cat and see if they like us. We have not been turned away yet." The duo started the business after gaining extensive experience looking after family and friends' cats. They also drew up a detailed business plan before taking the plunge. Now up and running, they offer to make morning, evening and weekend visits to homes in the boroughs of Sutton, Croydon and Merton. During each visit the cat-sitter will feed the cat, change its litter tray, give it any necessary medication as well as play with the animal and make it feel loved. Although it remains a fledgling business, 27-year-old Miss Dalton is already hoping she can quit her day job as an NHS manager to be a catmate full-time. "It is where my heart is," she said. "If it was to take off I would not hesitate to go full time. "Our customers have said the cats are really happy and relaxed. I think the cat bonds with us after a while.
